Removable Gooseneck Trailer (RGN)
The gooseneck is a term in the trucking industry used to describe the part of a Drop Deck trailer that attaches to the tractor’s fifth wheel, and is called “gooseneck” because, well, it actually does look like a gooseneck. Our favorite trailer for heavy equipment.
The RGN, then, is a type of Double Drop Trailer, with a gooseneck attachment. It’s used to move tall & large loads, and is known by various names including “RGN” or “detachable trailer”; it is sometimes referred to as a “detach” trailer.
Removable Gooseneck Trailer Specs
Removable Gooseneck Trailers have the advantage of being able to unhook into 2 pieces and are usually 48 feet long, allowing for the loading of special types of equipment. Between the front and rear upper decks is a low deck area referred to as a “well”. The well is typically 29′ 6″ in length. The well is usually around 20″ to 24″ off the ground allowing for transport of freight that is around 11′ 8″ in height. This is a specialized trailer and carries a premium rate.
